Mark started taking piano lessons at the age of 7, after falling in love with a girl next door. It seemed that she was taking piano lessons at that time. What passed for a romantic notion in his seven year old mind was that he would eventually be able to play duets with her. (How could she resist his charms then?) Ultimately, she rejected his advances, crushing all hope of romance by accusing him of "smelling like a snake".
Defeated in love, Mark was nonetheless stuck with the piano lessons...
He continued his studies with Virginia Klotzle-Prescott from the Boston Conservatory for four years. After that, there was a hiatus of a few years before he again took up piano from Robert F. Noonan, a large and jovial man, who instilled in Mark, the love of performing.
During this time a chance to hear Bluesman George Moonogian play on the familiy's old Gulbransen upright led to a love of Blues and Boogie style music.
Attending University of Massachusetts, Mark participated in the Jazz Workshop. It was there that he picked up love of Swing, and the Big Band sound. If you listen carefully to his recordings you may even notice that the chords and rhythms played by his right hand imitate the sound of the brass section of such a band.
After graduating college with a BSEE degree, Mark spent many years in the computer industry as a software engineer. (Some of these experiences are expressed in the song "Cubicle Blues") Still his love of music led him to play in many bands in the greater Boston, Worcester and southern New Hampshire areas. Since of these bands were particularly memorable, we can save a step by not listing them here.
At the present time, Mark has returned to the music scene with over twenty compositions from love ballads such as "Ever Always" and "Open My Eyes" , to Swing, Blues and Boogie (Spooky Shoe Boogy", "Bare Hill Boogy", "Saturday Night Boogy", and more). He displays a mastery of the keyboard with instrumentals such as "Let Me Hear Your Voice", "and "Swing Lake" .
He can be found haunting the lively open mike scene in the I495 area outside of Boston, while he works on his first CD.
